It is not hard to imagine that times like these are coming to America. In our case it would be the Federal Reserve demanding that banks be shutdown for a short time so that 10% of all savings accounts could be extracted and used as a down payment on the debt we would be taking on. They would call it a "Bank Holiday". Our politicians would come onto the television and tell us all about how close we were total meltdown. They would tell us that because of bad investments the economy was dying and Anarchy was just around the corner. They would tell us how bad they felt about having to make this decision and truly stand with the people. This is what the people of Cyprus woke up to today.

Alex McCobin, the President of Students for Liberty, has written an open letter to Glenn Beck. It was in response to a segment on one of Beck's programs where he was discussing his beefs with Libertarians who were skeptical about his recent transformation. Apparently Alex McCobin took this attack personally because this open letter to Glenn, in my opinon really takes him to town and asks some real good questions. Recently I've been able to catch a few episodes of Glenn and he does seem to have a real issue with anybody who questions his positions. Which to me seems strange because I don't know if I've ever met a Libertarian who didn't love to argue and craved the next time they could make a point about why Liberty is awesome. Glenn has brought on a few Libertarian panels and is seems to dwell on questions about why Libertarins call attention to his past positions, like being pro bailout, anti-Ron Paul, pro-war and Patriot act. I don't know Glenn perhaps people see you, or at least what you have represented in the past, as the reason why we are in such bad shape as a country. I mean just a few months ago Glenn was saying that the future of America staying alive was hinged on Mitt Romney getting elected. To me this is suspicious of somebody who will use the coercion of government to get what he wants out of society. There are many people who have profitied off of Glenn's bailout cheerleading and war mongering. Glenn must realize this? I think it was kind of Alex to reach out to Glenn in such a manner. I found his tone to be sincere and respectful. If Glenn is looking for Libertarians to engage in conversations with I think Alex would be a perfect candidate.I'de also like to see them take on some of the more controverisal issues that as Alex says "are issues that clearly differentiate libertarianism from conservatism." I'm not looking to see a fight but rather just a serious attempt to hash out some philosophical principles, something that I know both sides of that coin can benefit from.
Below is the letter in full from Alex as seen on Mediaite.com

Gary Johnson appeared on the Daily to show to make his case for being better than President Obama on civil liberties, and better than Mitt Romney on fiscal issues. Gary needs to poll at 15 % or more to be included in the presidential debates. He's currently polling around 8%. Let's share this with as many people as possible, and encourage everyone we know to consider selecting him in polls.

CANDIDATES * Gary Johnson for U.S. President **
YES on Proposition A - City of San Diego Fair & Open Competition Ordinance. Amends Municipal Code * This is the first "top two" election which is a result of Proposition 14 which voters previously approved. It is very important that members and registered libertarians vote in the primary so that our candidates have a chance to advance to the general election in November ** Gary Johnson and Jim Gray were already nominated at the Libertarian Party National Convention on May 5, 2012. However, the ballot still indicates choices for President. Please vote for our nominee Gary Johnson, even though it is a non-binding vote |

Additionally, we spend whatever we can on voter outreach efforts. We are planning voter registration booths at upcoming summer festivals and fairs. Fundraising and voter outreach is an ongoing process and every dollar that we receive helps us advance libertarianism in California. In 2012, the new proposition 14 rules take effect, so we have to step up our efforts to register more voters between now and the end of 2013! Thanks for your support! |

January 17, 2011: The SDLP has confirmed that Councilman Carl DeMaio, who represents San Diego city council district 5, will speak and answer several questions during the lunch portion of our annual convention on Saturday January 29. The check in time is 11:30 A.M. and lunch will be from 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. We encourage attendees to read the Roadmap to Recovery and to prepare a question in advance. Let us take the initiative to prepare some excellent questions for him. This is in addition to our other two speakers Adam Summers, who writes for the Reason Foundation, and Mike Seebeck, who is the California Campaign Coordinator for Lee Wrights 2012. |

January 2, 2010: The SDLP executive committee recently voted to join the Coalition to Advance Fiscal Reforms. This decision follows and is consistent with our previous recommendation to vote “No” on Proposition D. It is important to understand that joining this movement does not require that we immediately support any specific proposal. We reserve the right to take a formal position on any future proposal or ballot initiative. It does mean that we understand the challenges that lie ahead, and that we are committed to providing a libertarian viewpoint as the issues are discussed and/or implemented. We urge San Diego residents to read the Roadmap to Recovery and to participate in one of the remaining forums that Carl DeMaio will be hosting in the near future. Information about the next two forums follows. More Press Release: San Diego Libertarian Party joins the Coalition to Advance Fiscal Reforms » |

Wes Bertrand will speak about his book, Complete Liberty: The Demise of the State and the Rise of Voluntary America. Wes received a BBA in management (minor in philosophy), BS in psychology, and MA in counseling psychology during the '90s. He encountered the writings of Ayn Rand and Nathaniel Branden in '93, and that same year embraced market anarchism instead of their contradictory political model of "laissez-faire capitalism." Wes' first book The Psychology Of Liberty (download from here: http://www.logicallea...) published in 2000, was a philosophical and psychological outgrowth of that process. Complete Liberty: The Demise of the State and the Rise of Voluntary America was published in 2007 (download from http://www.completeli...) which presents a focused look at our political situation and how it can be resolved. While Wes has been a member of the NH Free State Project since 2005 (even moved there in '06 and then moved back to SD in '07), he believes its realization remains difficult due to most members not being voluntaryist/agorist (instead seeking the counterproductive political means). He believes root-striking freedom activism can be done wherever one resides; visit http://www.meetup.com... for more information about this process in sunny San Diego. Currently, Wes works with Kevin Koskella on http://www.healthymin..., their weight loss, nutrition, and mental health and physical fitness site. His personal counseling site is http://www.happinessc.... The Event is FREE! Food checks are all separate – Thank you Elijah’s!

On Monday, February 22nd at 7pm, Cafe Libertalia hosted the first debate on this topic of high-level of control over people vs. absolutely zero government and thus a completely free market economy. This was not the typical political debate that argued over what to do with the stolen loot. Instead it focused on that basic question -- whether or not 'government' is necessary, appropriate or legitimate. The two sides are from what is generally considered the fringes of More Democratic Socialist/Voluntaryists(market anarchy debate) » |

Time to Think Outside the Library BoxSan Diego County has a number of public library systems open to the general public. Two operations are quite large - the San Diego County and San Diego City libraries. In addition, the cities of Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Oceanside, Coronado, Escondido and National City each have their own library systems. More Time to think outside the library box » |

Even though there are no radio stations per se in San Diego that are libertarian, except for MAYBE Roger Hedgecock, there are some around the country that you can stream. |
