* This is the first "top two" election which is a result of Proposition 14 which voters previously approved. It is very important that members and registered libertarians vote in the primary so that our candidates have a chance to advance to the general election in November
** Gary Johnson and Jim Gray were already nominated at the Libertarian Party National Convention on May 5, 2012. However, the ballot still indicates choices for President. Please vote for our nominee Gary Johnson, even though it is a non-binding vote

Proposition E
After a spirited debate about proposition E, we decided not to take a position on proposition E. Longtime libertarians might be wondering why. Ideologically, we should be against any proposal to enact new rent controls. In our opinion, the root cause for the need of rent control is the distortion of the real estate market that is caused by terrible government policies. Current land use policies make it difficult to develop new housing or mobile/manufactured home lots. It's just one bad policy on top of many other bad policies. We can certainly understand why a lot of libertarians would choose to vote yes on proposition E. On other other hand, we can also understand why some would choose to vote no. The fear is that prop E isn't the best way to end rent control. We encourage all voters to read this proposition carefully and vote their conscience.
