Reports - Officers:

Chair’s Report

Brad obtained a new post office box, paid for one full year. The address is PO Box 32, Poway, CA 92074. Discussion on obtaining a sign in future (maybe Statue of Liberty) for the meeting location. Membership benefits are unfinished but in progress.

Vice-Chair’s Report

Don shared that podcasts are going well. Ask Joe for growth numbers.

Palomar College will hopefully invite Don to speak at next year’s Political Economy Forum Week.

Treasurer’s Report

Bob presented the April financial statement. Bob received a return call from Nazia at US Bank. She verified with her superior that when we obtain an EIN, we can substitute it for the SSN on the same account - we don’t have to close the account. The account was opened in 1998. Bob or Brad can sign/make changes to EIN.

Publicity Chair’s Report

John and Joseph are creating podcasts. Joseph is working on ways to obtain members, currently focusing less on PR and more on membership. Send your ideas to Joseph ([email protected]) to add to the list.

Secretary’s Report

No report for this meeting.

Unfinished Business - None

New Business:

 Party Growth. Antonio made several suggestions and there was discussion on the following: Antonio wants to see the party grow. It is possible to double every quarter to have a one million dollars operating budget. We need to access the list of names/numbers/contacts who are willing to vote Libertarian and encourage them to sign up at the local/state levels. It takes approximately $63-64 additional funds above membership to get to $1 million. We need to get an office, do marketing, invite media and be viable.

 Mailout. Get contact info to access, analyze, write letter. We have to have a wave (i.e. Operation Goldrush) and send a letter notifying that we are the Libertarian Party for the County of San Diego and raising funds to open an office, conduct marketing, to be a party with no limits to candidates, obtain campaign software.

Mailing costs for the letter would be +/- 7,000 people x $.50 cents per letter = $3500 total cost

Obtain updated membership forms from Mimi. Tell people what we will do with the funds. We need to raise funds and incentivize [as to] why it is beneficial to donate.

We will draft the letter, send to our existing list, hand deliver face to face to big business owners with an introduction of our ideas and offer to meet and talk with them. Businessmen can raise $3000 to use for the mailing costs. Group discussion on perks offered to the business owners such as including their logo. We have 12,000 registered voters but only have 100 members. We need business owners to donate funds so that we can contact the voters.

Antonio agreed to develop and present a detailed fundraising campaign proposal for further executive committee consideration.

SDLP Website. Migrate website – outsource to developer – Square Space – Revenue must cover.

Brad to add access for Antonio to SDLP website and Slack.

Ballot qualification. There are minimum signature requirements to qualify for the ballot. Thomas Krause or Antonio could run a campaign. Antonio to draft program.

Membership Benefits. Brad wants to form a private Facebook group for members to discuss items on Podcast, suggest topics. Don – lapel pins (porcupine). State bulk discount. Bob will contact the State. Ex: i.e. $100 contribution gets you bumper sticker.

Communications. Per Brad contact order for outgoing letters will be:

1. Our List

2. Our Unpaid List

3. County Libertarians

4. Decline to States

5. Officials

San Diego Libertarian Party grew to 16,355, which was a .02% increase from Year 2018.

Decline to State/No Party Preference is 553,038. We will contact Libertarians first, then No Party Preference. To fund our full-time office employee we need to add 50% of salary plus equipment – funds must be generated above the need before taking hiring steps.

Communications will be:

Solicitations

Critical Info

Clean and clear

Goal is to capture half of the 16,000 people on the Libertarian mailing list. Membership cards? Anthony can get a quote. CA State Libertarian Party is investigating new software that may be compatible with Affiliates. Word Press membership plug-in, donation, newsletter - we currently pay $12 – it would become $30-40+. San Diego Libertarian Party could rebrand as the “party of small business”. Current monthly operating costs are $100 +/-; with PO Box $110/mo. Total is less than $150/mo.

SDLP Annual Convention. We are gearing up for the San Diego County Convention in February 2020. We will sell advertising. Don already booked the Feb. 2020 convention for President’s Day Weekend. Don to forward confirmation to Bob for confirmation receipts. In September, we will offer an early bird special of a lower price for early registration.

Other Business (Announcements)

SDLP Podcasts. Updates on prohibition of 1 oz. bottles by hotels but no ban on 1.4 oz. liquor/travel size bottles; SANDAG; Zoning; Rent Control; Train Money Taken; Vaccines; UCSD; other topics.

June’s meeting agenda will follow up on memos, verbiage, next steps, step plan, strategy.

No other public comment at this time.

Motion to Adjourn by Don, Seconded by Bob. Passed Unanimously.

Action Items
