The San Diego Libertarian Party continues our strategy to becoming the largest and most influential party in San Diego County.  We want to restore individual freedom, expand opportunities, and bring integrity back to the political process in San Diego. California needs the ideas of the Libertarian Party, and San Diego is the place to spread them with our large Libertarian leaning demographic.

Help us advance the ideals of liberty by becoming a member and supporting candidates that promote limited government and the protection of personal liberty.

PERSONAL FREEDOM: Source is August 21, 2018 article by Luis Gomez/San Diego Union Tribune (, “California is failing at freedom except when it comes to cannabis, think tank [Cato Institute] says. . .The Cato Institute ranks California 48 out of 50 for personal and economic freedom. . .”  Cato Institute Report authors William Ruger and Jason Sorens cited “weak gun rights” and “high tobacco taxes.”

ECONOMIC FREEDOM: Per the 2018 Index of Economic Freedom published by The Heritage Foundation covering the second half of 2016 through the second half of 2017 (, four pillars of freedom were measured.

”1. Rule of Law – property rights, government integrity, judicial effectiveness

2. Government Size – government spending, tax burden, fiscal health

3. Regulatory Efficiency – business freedom, labor freedom, monetary freedom

4. Open Markets – trade freedom, investment freedom, financial freedom”

"The United States ranked #18 in freedom out of 180 countries based on the four pillars of freedom." The tops in overall freedom were Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Switzerland, Australia and Ireland. The lowest areas of freedom performance for the U.S. were government size – in government spending, tax burden and fiscal health.

ECONOMIC FREEDOM: Governor Jerry Brown recently signed a law that forces publicly traded corporations to install at least one woman on their boards of directors by 2019, 2 women per 5 men, and 3 women per 6 men by Year 2021. This is unconstitutional, an extreme loss of business freedom and more government overreach. It displaces men from these jobs, potentially hires women without appropriate abilities, and sets a precedent for other future government gender/race quotas and other controls.
