January 2019 Newsletter

The San Diego Libertarian Party continues our strategy to becoming the largest and most influential party in San Diego County.  We want to restore individual freedom, expand opportunities, and bring integrity back to the political process in San Diego. California needs the ideas of the Libertarian Party, and San Diego is the place to spread them with our large Libertarian leaning demographic.

Help us advance the ideals of liberty by becoming a member and supporting candidates that promote limited government and the protection of personal liberty.

The meeting focused on the upcoming February 16 local Libertarian Convention to be held at The Green Dragon Tavern. Discussions were on expected attendance numbers, increasing member participation through job assignments communicated via email, costs, fundraising and offsetting cost increases by bar drink fees and selling merchandise. Advertising and promotion will be via radio announcements, Facebook group advertising, and pushing live podcasts on Facebook. The proposed convention agenda order is business first, then drinks/social followed by dinner and then the keynote speakers. Next steps are to finalize the theme and speakers.

Personal Freedom: “Conservatives trace the idea of rights to the essence of an individual as a human being. We have rights because we’re human beings with souls, with reason, distinct from other animals and from God. We’re not Beasts, but we’re not God  - we’re the in-between being. Conservatives seek to vindicate human equality and liberty – the basis for majority rule in politics – against the liberal Constitution’s alternative, in which everything is increasingly based on group identity.” Charles R. Kesler, Professor of Government at Claremont McKenna College and Editor, Claremont Review of Books, From September 27, 2018 lecture at Hillsdale College, published in Imprimis, October 2018, Vol. 47 No. 10.
